Every year Manchester holds the largest free to attend celebration of Gender Diversity weekend for individuals, their partners, family and friends. It is staged in Manchesters' gay Village within the confines of Sackville Gardens.
Sparkle are proudly supported by Manchesters' Gay Village business: VIA. KIKI. BarPop. Oscars Bar. TriBeCa, G-A-Y, THE GOOSE, CLUB TROPICANA, VELVET, N, CRUZ 101.
This years entertainment came from Trans Radio UK, cabaret singer Alex Dawe who is an active member with the Trans/Queer community, sultry Latino sounds from singer Dee Chanelle, singer/songwriter Sally McFerran known as Alabasta Queen and many many more..
The Sparkle Weekend contests consist of Mr Sparkle, Miss Sparkle and Miss Golden Sparkle. The contestants are one of the most popular segments on the sparkle weekend stage, and the number of contestants and spectators shows no signs of waning.
The love shown by the audience for those brave enough to enter is a true sign of community and fellowship. At the sparkle weekend we celebrate each other - and the contestants are a key part of that.
This year I Shay Robertson activist and author was extremely honoured to be asked to co-present on stage with sparkles patron actress Annie Wallace from channel 4 soap Hollyoaks. I must say it was an amazing experience and I have been asked to take part again next year!
So if you did not make it this year hopefully we will see you there in 2020!
